Manually adding the code to your website
Check if there is a Tracking Code installation guide specific to your platform
Hotjar works with most website creation platforms. To help with installation, first check if we have a specific installation guide for your platform listed in the section above. If you're unable to find your platform, follow the installation steps below for manually adding the code to your website.
Ensure your platform is compatible with Hotjar.
Hotjar works with most website creation platforms. If you aren’t sure if your platform can be used with Hotjar, see our guide on Platforms and Frameworks Not Compatible with Hotjar.
Go to your Sites page.
Click on Install tracking code for the Site you want to track.
Click on Copy to copy the Tracking Code to your clipboard.
Share the code with your developer, or in your site's code paste the copied Tracking Code between the <head> </head> tag.
Hotjar works most accurately if the Hotjar Tracking Code is inside the Head tag (<head> </head>) of every page you want to track.
Add the Tracking Code to your website template
We recommend adding the Tracking Code to your website template so that it automatically goes into each page of your site.
Return to your Sites page in Hotjar to verify the installation.
Once you have added the Hotjar Tracking Code to your site, you will need to wait a few minutes for Hotjar to check if it is installed correctly. This usually happens the moment your site is loaded with the Hotjar code on it, but there can be a delay before it shows as Collecting data.
