Seeing something different in your Joomla administration panel?
This guide was updated last for Joomla 3.9.10 Stable, using the Protostar theme. If you notice anything different from this guide, contact us and the Support team will help.
Go to Hotjar.com to copy the code from the Hotjar admin.
Log into the Joomla Administration panel.
Open Extensions > Templates > Templates.
Click on the title of the template your site is using.
Locate the .php file that contains the <head> element on all your pages.
It may be something other than index.php on your site
In the default theme, this is index.php, but it may be a different file for other themes. If in doubt, consult the documentation for your theme, or contact its creator.
Insert your Tracking Code above the </head> closing tag.

After:
Click the Save & Close button.
Your Hotjar Tracking Code is now installed.
Once you have added the Hotjar Tracking Code to your site, you will need to wait a few minutes for Hotjar to check if it is installed correctly. This usually happens the moment your site is loaded with the Hotjar code on it (you can visit the page yourself to speed it up). Once Hotjar has detected the Tracking Code on your site, the Site Dashboard will show a notice like the one below:
Keep Tracking Code in mind when making design changes
If after you install the Tracking Code, your website undergoes a major design change check to ensure your Tracking Code is still installed.
