Third-party tools may change the installation process
We regularly update our documentation when we make changes to Hotjar, and do check our most popular install guides, but sometimes third-party tools might make changes we're not aware of. In the case of Hubspot, you might find it useful to refer to their guide to adding to snippets to the head of your page, if you encounter any difficulties this documentation.
In your HubSpot account, click on the settings icon in the main navigation bar.
Navigate to Website > Pages in the left sidebar menu.
Select a Specific domain or select All domains.
If you haven't specified a particular header and footer for any of your subdomains, paste the Hotjar Tracking Code under the default for all domains option.
If you have already specified a specific header and footer for your subdomain, select that domain from the drop-down. You can then paste the Hotjar Tracking Code in the header section.
Specific domain settings override All domain settings
When you add any code to the header or footer HTML for a Specific domain, it will override code in header and footer HTML for All domains.
Go to your Hotjar account to copy the Tracking Code from the Hotjar admin.
Paste the Hotjar Tracking Code in the Site header HTML section.
Click Save.
Your Hotjar Tracking Code is now installed.
Once you have added the Hotjar Tracking Code on your site, you will need to wait a few minutes for Hotjar to check if it is installed correctly. This usually happens the moment your site is loaded with the Hotjar Tracking Code on it (you can visit the page yourself to speed it up). Once Hotjar has detected the Tracking Code on your site, the Site Dashboard will show a notice like the one below:
Keep Tracking Code in mind when making design changes
If after you install the Tracking Code, your website undergoes a major design change check to ensure your Tracking Code is still installed.
