Hotjar allows you to choose when you would like a Survey to appear on a targeted page, and whether or not the same visitor should see the Survey more than once. The configurations for each of these options are as follows:
The Survey behavior and persistence options are available under step 6 - Behavior for On-site Surveys.
What about External Link Surveys?
External Link Surveys appear on a designated page, outside of your website. However, you can enable a "Survey invite" to appear on a targeted page, prompting your users to visit your External Link Survey.
Behavior trigger options for Surveys:
- Immediately after the page loads.
Once your site is fully loaded and the Hotjar Tracking Code has been triggered, the Feedback widget will show. - After a delay of x seconds.
The user will need to remain within the same URL for the length of the delay in order for the widget to be triggered. - When a user is about to abandon the page on a desktop device.
Abandonment widgets only work for Desktop devices. They are triggered when the mouse moves towards the top part of the browser in any direction. - When the user scrolls halfway down the page.
Once the user reaches 50% down your page, the widget will be triggered.
Mobile/tablet users will not see a Survey if the behavior is based on "abandon".
Setting the behavior to When user is about to abandon the page on a desktop device will prevent the Survey from ever appearing to users on a mobile device or tablet.
Persistence options for On-site Surveys only:
- Until they submit a response.
This is the default option. The widget will show to the targeted users until they submit a response (or collapse it). - Only once, even if they did not respond.
This option will make a widget only show once for every user. - Over and over, even if they submit a response.
This option allows you to show the same widget multiple times to the same user if they fit the targeting parameters you define.
