Heatmaps, Survey and Incoming Feedback responses, as well as Recordings data lists can be exported, while Heatmaps and individual Recordings can be shared. Sharing provides you with a URL that grants access to the report for anyone with the URL.

Share a Recording from the playback screen
Click on the Share icon at the top right of the Recording playback screen.
Toggle the share switch to enable or disable sharing.
Copy the PUBLIC URL.
Exporting a spreadsheet of Recording data
You can export a list of all Recordings and their metadata as a .CSV or .XLSX file. This includes metadata available inside the Recording such as tags or comments.
This is great for collaborating with colleagues or performing additional analysis.
Recordings themselves cannot be downloaded
Recordings cannot be downloaded (for example, as a video file). This is because they are recreations of the user's browser session in your browser, so require an active connection to our servers, and a web browser to run.
Open your Recordings playlist.
Click on the export cloud icon.
Select the file format you want to receive data in.
Your options will either be a CSV or a XLSX file type.
You will see a pop-up message telling you how many recordings will be included in the list, and which email address will receive the download link.
100,000 is the max number of Recordings you can download data from
If you have too many Recordings, you could consider filtering by date or other values to reduce the number of Recordings.
Check your email that is associated with your Hotjar account.
The email sent from Hotjar will contain a link to the download.
Any Hotjar team member with Read access or higher can use this link to download the file while logged into Hotjar. If you are not logged in, you will first be sent to the login page.
Open your spreadsheet in any software which can read CSV or XLSX files
Most data values in the spreadsheet are available on your Recording playlist. Others are normally only accessible inside the Recording itself or as filter values. These include:
- Watched or not?
- Shared or not?
- Rage clicks present?
- U-turn present?
- Net Promoter Score®
- Incoming Feedback rating
- User Attributes
Certain values are only available to Sites on a Business plan
Instead of data values, you will see the value “Only available on Hotjar Business”. This includes Referral URL, Rage Clicked, U-Turned, Incoming Feedback.
User Attributes will be available to all Sites on a Business plan in a future update to Hotjar.
Continuous Heatmaps cannot be shared or exported
Continuous Heatmaps is a new feature and it does not currently offer the option to share, download or export (.JPG or .CSV). Our team is working on introducing this functionality. For more details on what features we plan to include with Continuous Heatmaps, check out our Product Roadmap.
Here are the steps that you can follow to share a Manual Heatmap:
Click on the Share Heatmap button just beside your Heatmap title.
Set sharing to Public.
Click Copy & Close.
The URL will then be saved to your clipboard for sharing.
Only people provided the URL can access your Heatmap - it is not listed anywhere publicly for people to see. Anyone with access to your shared Heatmaps will be able to browse click, move, and scroll Heatmaps by device.
After you set up your Heatmap, you’ll be able to download available Click, Move, or Scroll data by clicking on the Download button. You also have the option to download a Heatmap as an image (JPG) or in CSV format:
The Heatmap image will show a visual representation of where users clicked on the Heatmap. The CSV file will show you the elements that the user clicked on and how many clicks occurred on each element.
The number of clicks will not be visible on the downloaded Heatmap image
When you export/download a Heatmap image, you will not be able to visually see the number of clicks associated with elements. You will only be able to see the areas of heat representing where users clicked.
To analyze the number of clicks as well as the visual representation, we suggest that you also download a CSV file containing the click data.
Exporting Survey and Incoming Feedback responses
Go to the dashboard of the tool you'd like to export data from.
Click View Responses.
Select the Download All cloud icon.
Choose the desired format to download the responses. For both Surveys and Incoming Feedback tools, responses can be downloaded in CSV or XLSX format. All data points will be downloaded in UTC time.
There is a max number of responses you can download in one export file for Incoming Feedback
We currently have a download limit of 30,000 responses per export file for the Incoming Feedback tool. Export files that contain more than 30,000 responses cannot be downloaded due to size limitations. Using the response filters can help reduce the size of your export file.
