Recording comments allow you to jot down any thoughts or observations as you review Recordings within Hotjar and tag team members in the comment to invite them to look at the same session. This helps you track patterns, issues, and errors.
All team members that have access to your Hotjar site will be able to see your comments.
In this article, we'll cover the following:
How to add a comment to a Recording
Select the desired recording.
On the Recordings list page, click the PLAY button next to the recording you want to comment on.
Open the comment box by using one of the following methods:
- Click the Add Comment button
- Click the comment icon above the playback indicator
- Press the ' c ' key on your keyboard
Type your comment and click the green Add comment button to save.
All comments taken during playback of a Recording are visible on the playback timeline. Click on an existing comment indicator in the timeline to view the comment.
How to tag a team member in a comment
When adding a comment in Hotjar, you can tag team members within your organization and they will receive a notification of your comment via email. To tag a team member, type the ' @ ' symbol into the comment field and then type the desired team member's name, or select it from the drop-down list that appears.
After you've submitted your comment, the tagged team member(s) will receive a notification via email that contains the following information:
- Your email address
- The message you wrote and the date/time it was submitted
- A link to the recording and the Hotjar Recording ID
- An option to Reply to your comment (this will take them to your existing comment, where they can reply in the same thread)
Filtering by Recordings that contain comments
You can now add the Team Comments filter to only display recordings that contain one or more comments in them. Learn more about Recording Filters.
