We're working hard to bring native mobile app testing to Hotjar Engage.
In this guide, we'll explore your options for conducting user testing on mobile devices in the meantime and show you how to set up your projects for each method.
There are two ways for participants to join user tests on mobile phones:
The way you set up your project will depend on which of these options your participants will use to join the call.
We recommend the first option: having your participants join on a mobile device using the Zoom mobile app. This works for both Android devices and iPhones. Using this method, the participant can share their mobile phone screen with you while they complete testing in a mobile app.
The second option is to have your participant connect their iPhone to their Mac and share their screen via Hotjar's call platform. This requires your participant to have a Mac, iPhone, and a cable to connect the two.
Let's explore how to set up your Engage project for both scenarios.
Using a mobile phone with Zoom
Select Other video platform as the platform to run the interview when setting up the project
You can then add in a Zoom URL (more on this in step 3).

Add a screener question confirming the requirements
To make sure the expectations are clear, add a screener question where you request confirmation that the participant is happy to install Zoom on their mobile phone for the purpose of this test.
Share the call link with the participant
You will need to follow up with each participant and share a unique call link with them.
Once a participant has booked, you can click on their name in the project details to find out their email address.
