On Tuesday, 29th May 2018 at 21:08 CEST / 15:08 EST, our engineers identified an issue which was causing intermittent problems in accessing and sending data to Hotjar. Due to the issue, Hotjar was put into maintenance mode between 22:28 CEST / 16:26 EST and 23:41 CEST / 17:41 EST.
Why did this issue occur?
Our infrastructure provider (Amazon Web Services) confirmed that this was an issue on their end which affected AWS Aurora for PostgreSQL. Specifically, the database read replica started to lose connection to the master and was restarting repeatedly as a result.
We worked with their engineers to implement a fix and turned on maintenance mode at 22:28 CEST / 16:26 EST since many requests made to our services were failing.
Amazon Web Services applied a patch to resolve the issue and full access was restored at 23:41 CEST / 17:41 EST.
