On the 22nd of August 2018 at 20:11 CEST / 14:11 EST, our engineers identified an issue which caused delayed processing of data from websites.
Why did this issue occur?
We have recently been deleting larger number of recordings than in the past. This caused a change in behaviour on our database infrastructure which resulted in overall poor performance. This poor performance then affected processing of data from websites. This meant that there was a delay between events occurring on user's websites and the results being shown in the Hotjar interface.
What effect did this issue have on my site?
This issue had no effect on user sites.
What effect did this issue have on my data?
Data collection was not affected, but data processing was delayed.
From 22:50 CEST / 16:50 EST our engineers disabled the ability to delete recordings. This was done to restore normal service whilst a solution was applied. We have now restored the ability for recordings to be deleted.
What are we doing to ensure it doesn’t happen again?
We have released an updated system for deleting recordings that does not negatively affect the performance of our database infrastructure.
