On 25th September 2018 at 14:51 CEST / 07:51 EST, our engineers identified an issue which was causing a reduction in the amount of funnel data we were processing.
Why did this issue occur?
One of our servers had a configuration issue that prevented it from storing some visitors’ traffic logs.
What effect did this issue have on my site?
There was no effect on our users’ sites.
What effect did this issue have on my data?
We collected approximately 7% less traffic data than we should have over at least the last two weeks. This means that the data we used to calculate funnels over this period was incomplete, leading to funnel reports that may be skewed as a result.
What are we doing to ensure it doesn’t happen again?
We fixed the configuration issue, and then updated our code so that no other issues like this can affect traffic data that we get in the future.
We also added more detailed monitoring so that if we have any similar discrepancies in how much data we expect vs. receive we'll know something is wrong and be able to respond much more quickly.
