On 2019-08-26 at 15:39 CEST / 09:39 EDT, our engineers identified an issue which was causing our assets to be delivered very slowly from our CDN.
Why did this issue occur?
Our CDN provider suffered an outage in one of their data centres, which caused a domino effect that slowed down our requests.
What effect did this issue have on my site?
Due to the asynchronous way we load our script on your site, the effect in most cases should have been unnoticeable to end users.
What effect did this issue have on my data?
The issue would not have affected data collection unless the visitor left the page too quickly and failed to download and run our script. In a small percentage of cases, this download might have timed out completely, meaning that their data would not have been recorded.
What will we do to prevent this from happening in the future?
Unfortunately we have not managed to come up with a cost-effective CDN backup, but we continue to look into it. Our alerting also worked better this time, thankfully, but we'll look to improve it.
