Welcome to Hotjar!
You'll get the most out of this series if you already have an account with Hotjar so you can follow along with Zoe. Head to Hotjar.com to sign up now or log in to an already existing account.
Let's get started!
Step 1: How to install the Hotjar Tracking Code
The Tracking Code is essential to start collecting data from your site. Our Installation Guide, both manual installation guide as well as guides by platform, can be found on How to Install your Hotjar Tracking Code.
Step 2: Setting up Heatmaps
Heatmaps allow you to see how your users click, move and scroll through pages on your site. For a written guide of how to create your Heatmap, check out How to Create your First Heatmap.
Step 3: Run those Recordings
Recordings let you see how individual users browse, interact and navigate through your site. This allows you to improve the user experience and increase conversions. For a written guide on how to collect Recordings, head to How to Start and Stop Recordings.
Step 4: Collect that Feedback
Hotjar Polls have merged with Surveys
Since recording the Getting Started series, our Poll and Survey tools have merged. This video still explains the benefits of Surveys, however, you can find the updated steps to set up this type of feedback in How to Create your First Survey. What we previously referred to as "Polls" are now called "On-site" Surveys.
A Survey collects feedback from your users during crucial interaction moments, like users leaving in the middle of a conversion flow or the user arriving at your landing page for the first time.
For a written guide of setting up your Survey, head to How to Create Your First Survey.
Once You've Completed the Getting Started Series
You can start using any of Hotjar's other features: Forms, Funnels, Surveys, and Incoming Feedback. Have a look at the guides below to get started.
