How can I review, download, or sign a Data Processing Agreement (DPA) with Hotjar?
The terms of our DPA are already included in Hotjar's Terms of Service and form part of your agreement with us when you sign up to use our Software. Hotjar does not offer the option to download or digitally sign a DPA.
Is the Data Processing Agreement available in other languages?
The terms of our DPA are already included in Hotjar's Terms of Service, which is also available in German, and form part of your agreement with us when you sign up to use our Software. Hotjar does not offer the option to download or digitally sign a DPA.
Custom Security Questionnaires or Custom Agreements
Can your team complete our custom security questionnaire?
We’ve created a Compliance, Legal & Security portal where you can find the most common questions we receive on privacy, security, and data safety. The resources in this portal should cover most requests that are asked in security questionnaires.
If the portal doesn't cover all of your security questions, we are able to review custom questionnaires for customers who have an annual Hotjar Scale plan, or multiple plans with an equivalent value (starts at $/€ 789 per month), if there are any points that aren’t addressed in our Compliance, Legal & Security portal.
Can you sign our agreements, like our Data Protection Agreement (DPA) or Service Agreement, instead of the Hotjar template Agreements?
We can only sign customer agreements in limited situations because signing someone else’s agreements can present us with numerous business risks. If we sign one-off agreements with our customers that change a lot of small or large aspects of our legal commitments, we'll be unable to grow our product in ways that benefit our customers as a whole.

This is currently not possible. Due to the high volume of requests that our Legal Team receives and the small size of the team, we are currently unable to take calls with customers.

What languages are Hotjar's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service available in?
Hotjar’s Privacy Policy is currently available in English and German and can be accessed on our Privacy Policy page.

Do you inform your customers of any changes to your Terms of Service or Privacy Policy?
Yes. If we amend our Terms of Service, we will provide our customers with advance notice of the modifications via email. This will be sent to the email address associated with your Hotjar account. We will always post a written notice on hotjar.com thirty (30) days in advance of such changes coming into effect.
Where can I view previous versions of Hotjar's Terms of Service and Privacy Policy?
At the bottom of our Terms of Service page and Privacy Policy page, we share previous versions of either of these documents.
Is it possible to remove Section 3.3 (Automatic Renewal) from the Terms of Service?
This is not something that we can delete from our Terms of Service. For the auto-renewal, when you make the switch to annual invoicing, the account does not auto-renew. We will send an invoice towards the completion of the 12 months of service and your team can decide whether to pay or not. If you do not pay, all plans on the account will be downgraded to the free version of Hotjar with the option to upgrade again at any time. If you do pay, the subscription will continue without a lapse in service. Again, we would not amend the Terms as you could technically switch back to in-app payments in the future, in which case we would need the auto-renewal clause in the Terms.
Do you accept any changes to your Privacy Policy?
Our Privacy Policy documents Hotjar’s approach to privacy and how we handle your data. We do not accept any requested changes to our Privacy Policy.
Do I need to tell customers I am running Hotjar on my site?
We have a sample version of the wording which you can include in your Privacy Policy. This might need to be tailored to fit your particular use of our service so we also recommend that you work with your own legal counsel to make sure that the proposed wording addresses any concerns your business and customers might have and complies with all applicable laws.

How can I sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) with Hotjar?
You can view and digitally sign a copy of our Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) which has been developed to be fair and balanced. You’ll receive an email with a downloadable executed copy of the agreement once signed.
Will you sign my company's Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA)?
We only sign customer NDAs in limited situations. If you’d like to make a request relating to your specific or custom compliance requirements, reach out to us on our Legal Request Page.
Does Hotjar require team members to sign Non-Disclosure Agreements (NDA) or Confidentiality Agreements?
Yes. All Hotjar team members sign Non-Disclosure Agreements before starting at Hotjar and they are made fully aware of the confidentiality obligations.
