Add extra team members and set their permission levels
It's possible to share recordings and forward survey or feedback responses to your colleagues. However, it can be even more useful to give them access to view all reports by inviting them to your team's Hotjar Organization. There's also no limit on the number of team members you can invite to your Hotjar Organization.
Click on the Invite members icon on the top right of the Hotjar page.
Select your Organization from the dropdown menu.
Enter your team member's email address and provide an access level.
Access levels determine the level of permissions your team members have to edit tool and account settings. See our Team Member Permissions article for a breakdown of the different permissions given to each level.
Click Send Invites.
For more details on adding team members and setting permissions, see our How to Add Team members to an Organization and What are Accounts, Organizations, and Sites? articles.
Use IP blocking to stop data collection for your team's activity
Hotjar can use outbound public IP addresses to block your team members' devices from being included in collected data. Here are some things to keep in mind when blocking IPs:
- We're unable to support IPv6 or dynamic IP addresses. Only IPv4 addresses can be entered.
- Internal IPs cannot be blocked from data collection. Only public IP addresses can be blocked.
- When you block IPs, the block will apply to all Sites within the same Organization.
- Users with blocked IPs will not have their sessions recorded and will not have their activity included in Heatmaps.
- IP Blocking will not apply to Surveys or Feedback.
Visit your Sites & Organizations page.
Click on the site settings gear icon to visit the site settings page.
Click on the IP blocking section on your site settings page.
Add the IP addresses you want to block.
Click on Block your current IP to block the IP address of your current device. Keep in mind that if you are on a dynamic IP address, this IP address will change.
Click on Block a new IP to manually add any other IP addresses. You can add multiple IP addresses to this list by clicking Block a new IP multiple times.
IPs can be added in the following format:
- Simple: A single IP (IPv4) address, such as 192.168.0.1. We do not support IPv6.
- Regular Expression: You can use a regular expression value to target multiple IPs, such as ranges. Learn more in our article How to Use Regular Expressions to Block Multiple IPs.
Click Save Changes once you have added all IPs you want to block.
The IP addresses added to be blocked should stop collecting data for Recordings and Heatmaps immediately.
For more details on IP Blocking, see our article on how to block IPs from collected data.
Create highlights of important insights
When watching a recording or viewing a heatmap, you can capture a relevant insight as a snippet and store this as a highlight.
Highlights can be grouped into collections you can share and analyze with your team, helping you identify patterns and validate assumptions.
An unlimited number of highlights can be collected and won't impact your plan or session limits.
For more details on use cases for Highlights, capturing your highlights, or sharing highlights and collections, see our How to Use Highlights article.
Share your findings on Slack and email
If your team is already using Slack, then Hotjar's integration with Slack will boost collaboration.
The integration lets you push Hotjar data directly to channels in your Slack workspace. This includes Feedback responses, Survey responses, and recordings from specific Recording Segments.
See our article on Using Hotjar with Slack for step-by-step guides on setting this up.
It's also possible to have Survey and Feedback responses forwarded to multiple email addresses. This can be done within the settings for the specific survey or feedback widget.
Export your data for further collaboration
Data collected in Hotjar's tools can be exported for further analysis or sharing with others.
- Recordings: a recordings list and their metadata can be exported as a CSV or XLSX file.
- Heatmaps: a heatmap can be downloaded as a JPG image, and interaction data can be exported as a CSV file.
- Feedback and Surveys: responses from a survey or feedback widget can be exported as a CSV or XLSX file.
